Phil Sekaquaptewa, Hopi 3 strand turquoise bead choker with Iron wood carved section holding a large silver inlaid overlay feather (JD5)
Phil Sekaquaptewa, Hopi (RIP) made this incredible one-of-a-kind choker necklace with so many important elements. First the handmade turquoise beads are highlighted with the addition of sterling silver beads as well as pink coral. The center element is done with ironwood, which was one of Phil's favorites to carve. In this piece he has carved a Kokopelli figure which is set in a handmade flat bezel. The center element holds the long silver overlay feather pendant, which is inlaid with turquoise, lapis, red coral and variscite. The silver designs include water symbols that are so classic in Hopi jewelry.
Phil sold this necklace to a customer when he came to my gallery to do a show. The year was 1998. This collector passed away and her family has asked me to sell her collection. This necklace is truly a work of art and a one-of-a-kind treasure. Phil died way too young and there are not too many pieces available. A very important piece for any collection.
