Indian Character Dolls - Antique Set of Two
These are two antique dolls that are referred to as character dolls. They are similar in nature of the dolls made by the Skookum company, but these are not Skookums. Both dolls offer a wonderful vintage look and while not in perfect condition, are still collectible.
DOLL 1 - the shorter doll has a baby carrier on her back and the original baby is in the carrier. She is wearing a cotton "camp blanket" robe, has a beaded necklace, felt shoes and some kind of formed face - I am not sure of the material.
Size: 10 ½” tall x 4” wide x 4” deep
Condition: The biggest problem with this doll is the hair, which is a common problem with these antique dolls. Some of the hair has fallen out and there is parts of the head that don't have hair coverage. The rest of the doll shows appropriate wear for it's age. - a little soiled, but not torn.
DOLL 2 - The taller doll is also wearing a cotton blanket shawl with an Indian design. The skirt and leggings are leather and the base of the doll is wood. This is a male doll and is also wearing a beaded necklace.
Size: 13” tall x 5” wide
Condition: The hair on this doll has deteriorated in some spots and the braid on the left side is hanging and not in good shape. There is hair missing also. As for the leather on the leggings - as you can see in the photo, the leather stitching has ripped and some of the wood is exposed. One of the arms is exposed as the blanket has come unraveled.
FINAL COMMENT: While these dolls have some damage and wear, the age is them and the character make then a sweet addition to a collection. They make a visual statement and if handled carefully should not deteriorate any further.
