Greetings from Eagle Butte, SD

Dear friends,
This trip was 11 years in the making and I am finally here, on a solo road trip creating another “Reservation Road Story”.
This journey will ultimately take me to the Cheyenne River reservation – one of the reservations that is home to the Lakota Sioux. There I will spend some special time with friends including a visit to the Standing Rock Reservation for their pow wow.
Being in South Dakota is time for reflection about a noted Lakota artist and dear friend, Melvin Miner. My last visit here was 2010 when I spent time with him, including a behind-the-scenes tour of the Sioux Journey Museum, where he was working. We planned for me to return the following summer, but sadly he passed away suddenly that winter. One of the stops on this trip is to join his children to pay my respects at his grave.
A buying trip to the Black Hills is not my usual destination. While it is not, I have always been interested in and have been a student of beadwork, quillwork and other Northern Plains creations. Since judging those categories at the famed Santa Fe Indian Market, I have recommitted myself to offering authentic arts from this part of the country. Upon my return, watch for new treasures on the website.
South Dakota is the first of 5 buying trips planned. Also, we have two important events planned at the gallery for the fall and holiday season. Read all the details below.
About the website…I have hired another assistant and between myself, Taytum and Anna Rose, we have been adding new jewelry weekly! The website is loaded with great authentic Native jewelry and we are adding more this week and every week. As you know these items are one-of-a-kind and when they are gone - they are gone! Don’t hesitate to grab that special piece before it’s too late.
